To say that this area is spectacularly beautiful, would simply not be good enough. There are lush meadows in the valleys, a huge variety of plants, animals and trees, and bursting's out of the top of all this abundant display of nature's wealth, are the tall, craggy and majestic Pirin Mountains. The town of Bansko itself dates back hundreds of years, and the old buildings are an architectural delight with their carved ceilings and murals from the National Revival Period of the 19th century. For those who want to experience the Bulgarian hospitality, we have designed a range of excursions and activities that will meet your expectations for the region's cultural offerings. Whilst for those keen on an outdoor adventure we have prepared guided tours to the different parts of the Pirin National Park.

Bansko Resort Guide
Bansko is featured on World's Natural Heritage list for its beauty! Find out why...
Walking
Bulgaria's finest ski resort in winter, Bansko benefits from contemporary lift system providing easy access to Pirin National Park - a UNESCO World Heritage site boasting magnificent limestone mountain landscapes with 186 glacial lakes, waterfalls, caves and mainly coniferous forests. There is an impressive network of marked trails here to cater for walkers of any ability. Try a gentle stroll through moraines to Banderitsa Hut or picturesque Okoto Lake (only 5m deep!). For real adrenalin rush ascent to Mt.Vihren along ridge nicknamed Koncheto (small horse), where an anecdote describes less experienced hikers saddling the ridge edge like a horse, with one leg either side! On a sunny day climb up to Lake Popovo and enjoy an idyllic picnic sheltered by dramatic mountain peaks.
Places to see
Sofia, Bulgaria's thriving capital is a place where history successfully meets present.
Rila Monastery Featured in the World Heritage list there is hardly anything so impressive.
Melnik The smallest town in the country, huddling among frozen sandstone pyramids.
Weather
Bulgaria is a country of mountains sharing the same latitude as South of France, enjoying hot summers and average temperature of 27C with pleasantly cool evenings. Proximity of Greece brings hot air that mixed with fresh mountain air can create an occasional thunderstorm.
