Bourgas Area

The beach resorts in the Bourgas area are Sunny Beach, Nessebar, Sozopol, Pomorie, St Vlas and Duni. Together, these resorts cater for all types of beach holiday in Bulgaria.

Sunny Beach is the largest and most popular resort with a lively centre, but go out just a few streets from there and you'll find a very pleasant resort with lovely hotels and lots to do.

An important feature of Sunny Beach that makes it popular with families is the beach that gently slopes into the sea making it ideal for children to enjoy.

St Vlas is next to Sunny Beach, it has a marina and is more at the luxury end of the things with hotels to match. Nessebar is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a museum town, here you will step back in time among the cobbled streets and gabled houses. There are also modern hotels in the new town so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. Sozopol and Pomorie are similar to Nessebar whereas Duni is a purpose built luxury resort with its own beach and high quality hotels.

Varna Area

The resorts in the Varna are Golden Sands, Albena and St Constantine and Helena. Golden Sands is the largest resort of the three, it has a beautiful sandy beach and a promenade where people stroll along through the day and night enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, here you will find numerous restaurants and bars to enjoy a cold drink, a snack or an evening meals. The resort has a wide choice of hotels with many on the beachfront.

Albena is also a very attractive resort, it has a huge beach, not only is it long but it's also very wide, nearly a mile in some places! It has a good choice of hotels and rather than a promenade people walk around the resort where there are market stalls as well as bars and restaurants serving delicious local cuisine.

St Constantine and Helena is a small resort with small sheltered sandy beaches, with lots of rocky coves and inlets ideal for exploring and sunbathing. St Konstantin provides visitors with a relaxed atmosphere and is a great choice for clients looking for a quieter holiday.

What to see and do

From bustling Sunny Beach to the tranquility of St Konstantin there is a wide range of things to see and do in the beach resorts of Bulgaria. For those who love water sports there is jet ski hire, banana boat rides and even scuba diving. Nearly all hotels have their own swimming pool, some also have their own children's pool and water slides or you can visit an aqua park (more on those below).

As Bulgaria has wonderful sandy beaches a day enjoying the soft sand is a must too, and you can take a dip in the cool waters of the sea. For a break from the beach you can stroll along the promenades doing a bit of shopping in the shops or market stalls dotted around the resorts. There are also plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants where you can stop for a morning coffee or cold drink and also enjoy lunch with stunning sea views.

Food and Drink

Because of its geographical position and diverse history, Bulgarian cuisine is a mixture of the Slavonic, Greek and Turkish cuisines. We do recommend you try one of these local dishes in the various restaurants, cafes and bars as Bulgarian food is absolutely delicious.

• Shopska salad (diced tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and parsley topped with grated white cheese).
• Tarator (a cold soup of chopped cucumber, walnuts and yogurt) perfect on a hot summer's day.
• Bulgarian white cheese baked with eggs and tomatoes is another favourite.
•Kebapche (minced meat rolled into a sausage and grilled).
•Kavarma (individual casseroles of pork or veal, onions and mushrooms).
•Shishkebab, stuffed vine or cabbage leaves, and moussaka.

Yogurt tastes better in Bulgaria too - its country of origin. Bulgaria is home to some excellent locally produced wines and spirits, and nothing can beat a cold Bulgarian beer while relaxing around the pool or in one of the many friendly bars and restaurants.

Eating out in Bulgaria is very popular and affordable. It is widely known that food and drink is a lot cheaper than many other holiday resorts across Europe. Just another example of what great value for money our holidays to Bulgaria can be.
