More hot weather with plenty of sunshine to come in the following weeks in Bulgaria. Starting from today (Monday, 20 August) temperatures will be rising with at least 1C each day and towards the end of the week they are expected to reach up to 40C in some parts of the country. A summer to remember
After an unforgettable winter season with record snowfall in Bulgaria, it looks like this summer season will be leaving it's mark in the history books too. Yesterday alone (August 7, 2012), saw a total of 37 temperature records in Bulgaria, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has announced. The warmest place in the country was the Danube city of Ruse with a scorching 41,9C.! The thermometers in Bourgas showed the hottest 7th of August since 1912,  with a record breaking 36,5C. Upcoming Events in Summer 2012 – Slovenia
For those interested in Mediterranean culture, such as dance and music, the destination for this Summer is Slovenia, and the Mediterranean International Folklore Festival (MIFF). This year’s MIFF will be held on the Slovenian coast from 4th July to 8th July 2012. Performances will take place in popular seaside resorts, such as Portoroz, Piran and Koper. The festival has been organised since 2003 by the Folklore Association VAL Piran.  When you are on a summer holiday to Varna, it is worth it to make a daytrip to the Pobiti Kamani nearby, a rock formation consisting of stone columns between 5 and 7 meters high and filled with sand. The stones look like they are beaten into the ground, hence their name.  The limestone pillars are clustered into seven groups in an 8km line creating a spectacular phenomenon,  the origin of which is still not exactly known for scientists. Bulgaria is this year’s best holiday bargain in the new Holiday Costs Barometer of 15 European and mid-haul destinations by Post Office Travel Money. Key findings include that meals, drinks and other tourist staples are cheapest by far in Bulgaria. Balkan Holidays is proud to support the unveiling of a new Bulgarian water fountain in Kensington Gardens which is a gift from the Bulgarian community in London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Held under the joint patronage of Prince Kyril Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Bulgaria, the occasion will be marked by a half day cultural event in Kensington Gardens on the 26th of May 2012.
