After an unforgettable winter season with record snowfall in Bulgaria, it looks like this summer season will be leaving it's mark in the history books too. Yesterday alone (August 7, 2012), saw a total of 37 temperature records in Bulgaria, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has announced.
The warmest place in the country was the Danube city of Ruse with a scorching 41,9C.! The thermometers in Bourgas showed the hottest 7th of August since 1912, with a record breaking 36,5C. Varna beat it's 1963 record and set a new one of 34,6C. The water temperature is around 26-27C.

For those interested in Mediterranean culture, such as dance and music, the destination for this Summer is Slovenia, and the Mediterranean International Folklore Festival (MIFF). This year’s MIFF will be held on the Slovenian coast from 4th July to 8th July 2012. Performances will take place in popular seaside resorts, such as Portoroz, Piran and Koper.
The festival has been organised since 2003 by the Folklore Association VAL Piran. The purpose of the festival is to present the folklore dances, music and singing and the cultural variety of Mediterranean countries to the public.

A number of improvements will be made for the upcoming summer and winter seasons in the Bulgarian mountain resort Pamporovo.
For holidaymakers in the summer season, a new 23 km bike park will open just before the high season, where professional bikes can be rented and used on mountain paths of various levels of difficulty.
For a better winter ski holiday experience, the triple chairlift from Malina to Studenets will undergo a major overhaul which will make it faster. A new green run will be created from Snezhanka to Stoikite village. As a major attraction, Pamporovo’s main ski slope will be illuminated.

The largest beach resort of Bulgaria, Sunny Beach had its official opening last Sunday. Bulgaria is expecting an increase of foreign tourists of at least 5% this year, said the minister of tourism at the opening ceremony.

When you are on a summer holiday to Varna, it is worth it to make a daytrip to the Pobiti Kamani nearby, a rock formation consisting of stone columns between 5 and 7 meters high and filled with sand. The stones look like they are beaten into the ground, hence their name.
The limestone pillars are clustered into seven groups in an 8km line creating a spectacular phenomenon, the origin of which is still not exactly known for scientists. Some theories suggest a mineral origin, some others are based on an organic one.

Thanks to the ample snowfall and perfectly maintained slopes, Bulgarian ski resort Borovets has had a successful and record long winter season: lucky skier had the chance to use the slopes by early May.
The real hard work just starts now for Borosport, the company that runs the resort: they plan to invest a further 40 million euros in renovation and improvement of skiing infrastructure. Snow cannons on the central slope just outside the Rila Hotel will be developed and new ones installed.
The new attraction, Borosport Snow Park will be improved further for a third year in a row with new elements and features for beginners.

Bulgaria is this year’s best holiday bargain in the new Holiday Costs Barometer of 15 European and mid-haul destinations by Post Office Travel Money. Key findings include that meals, drinks and other tourist staples are cheapest by far in Bulgaria.
For example, the average price for a cup of coffee is £0.71, you can buy a bottle of beer for £1.18, a factor 15 suncream for £8.06 and enjoy a 3 course evening meal for two adults (including one bottle of house wine in a local restaurant) for as little as £23.70.
