We are delighted to have received news that the breathtaking Thracian Cliffs Golf & Beach Resort in Cape Kaliakra has been rewarded with Bulgaria's first professional golf tournament.
The 2013 Volvo World Matchplay Championship will attract some the the worlds leading golfers and the tournament will take place between the 16th to 19th May 2013.

More hot weather with plenty of sunshine to come in the following weeks in Bulgaria. Starting from today (Monday, 20 August) temperatures will be rising with at least 1C each day and towards the end of the week they are expected to reach up to 40C in some parts of the country. After an unforgettable winter season with record snowfall in Bulgaria, it looks like this summer season will be leaving it's mark in the history books too. Yesterday alone (August 7, 2012), saw a total of 37 temperature records in Bulgaria, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has announced.
The warmest place in the country was the Danube city of Ruse with a scorching 41,9C.! The thermometers in Bourgas showed the hottest 7th of August since 1912, with a record breaking 36,5C. Varna beat it's 1963 record and set a new one of 34,6C. The water temperature is around 26-27C.

When you are on a summer holiday to Varna, it is worth it to make a daytrip to the Pobiti Kamani nearby, a rock formation consisting of stone columns between 5 and 7 meters high and filled with sand. The stones look like they are beaten into the ground, hence their name.
The limestone pillars are clustered into seven groups in an 8km line creating a spectacular phenomenon, the origin of which is still not exactly known for scientists. Some theories suggest a mineral origin, some others are based on an organic one.

Bulgaria is this year’s best holiday bargain in the new Holiday Costs Barometer of 15 European and mid-haul destinations by Post Office Travel Money. Key findings include that meals, drinks and other tourist staples are cheapest by far in Bulgaria.
For example, the average price for a cup of coffee is £0.71, you can buy a bottle of beer for £1.18, a factor 15 suncream for £8.06 and enjoy a 3 course evening meal for two adults (including one bottle of house wine in a local restaurant) for as little as £23.70.

Balkan Holidays is proud to support the unveiling of a new Bulgarian water fountain in Kensington Gardens which is a gift from the Bulgarian community in London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Held under the joint patronage of Prince Kyril Saxe-Coburg-Gotha of Bulgaria, the occasion will be marked by a half day cultural event in Kensington Gardens on the 26th of May 2012.
This will be a great day out for everyone especially families as there is a special kids corner. The day starts at 10:30 with a gentle fun run/walk which will be 2012 metres in distance to celebrate the Olympic Year in London.
