Shopska Salad
Widely available, this is no ordinary salad. On offer in restaurants and cafés such as on the open-air veranda at the Hotel Venus, little gem in the middle of Sunny Beach, this salad can be eaten either as starter or a light main course. The last time we had any skiers on holiday with us, in fact any holiday makers at all, was in March 2020, thanks to Covid. It’s been a tough 20 months, the travel industry has been hit really hard throughout the pandemic. What makes it difficult for travel companies is they can’t just shut your doors and furlough all staff because we need to service all our customers who have holidays booked. Having previously been a French Alpes exclusive snowboarder, I had the opportunity to visit Bansko in March 2020 just before lockdown started, and boy was I impressed! I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the slopes in Bansko, well groomed, corduroy slopes met me and without a mogul in sight! There was a mixed standard of slopes too, not just blue runs but some good reds which were a good width too and to top it off I was also lucky enough to have sunshine too! The Town of Pomorie, a cheap resort in good location
Pomorie, a town with a population of 15 thousand, is halfway between Bourgas and Nessebar / Sunny Beach, about 20 km away from each. It was probably founded in the 5th or 4th century BC, as part of ancient Apollonia, today’s Sozopol.
