Head East for the Best Ski Value this Winter

Head East for the Best Ski Value this Winter
23 Nov 2018

For the sixth consecutive year the Eastern European resorts of Bansko, Bulgaria and Kranjska Gora, Slovenia have emerged as the cheapest ski destinations in the world, offering consumers the best value for their money this winter. This welcoming news was announced in the recent Post Office Ski Resort Report which compiles data from leading ski resorts around the world to put together a comprehensive report detailing which destinations provide the best choice available to clients.

With the pound currently enjoying a better exchange rate against other European currencies and the US dollar, the report found Bansko over £80 cheaper than its nearest rival when it came to a complete ski package including a six-day ski pass and ski/boot hire for one person, together with ski school (five-six half days) and the cost of one lunch on the slopes plus drinks including coffee, Coca-Cola, wine and beer costing just £264.52. Second placed Kranjska Gora came in at £324.56 for the same items, over £30 cheaper than third placed Ellmau.

The report also compared ski service prices for families based on 2 adults and 2 children and again found Bansko to be the best value at almost £300 cheaper than second placed Kranjska Gora for a variety of items including ski hire, lift passes, ski school and meals for the whole family.

There is good news for beginners as well with the report finding Bansko one of the best resorts to learn how to ski, offering a good range of nursery slopes and costing almost half the price of Nendaz (Switzerland) for beginners.

Andrew Brown, Post Office Head of Travel Money, said: “Seasoned skiers may have their favourite resorts and stick with them whatever the fluctuation in prices, but bargain hunters, especially novice or intermediate skiers, are more likely to look for the cheapest deal. In this case there’s no doubting that Eastern European resorts will be a great bet. Skiers heading to Europe have the added bonus of more currency for their pounds this year due to the strengthening of sterling.”

No matter what level of ability you are, you can be assured that a fantastic ski holiday and incredible value for money await you in Bansko and Kranjska Gora this winter. And if the success of this season is likely to come down to weather, than things are looking good for the Eastern European resorts with a significant amount of snow having already fallen across all resorts.
